Peter and Judith Rothenberg operate their small 2 acre farm in Northford, CT and share the organic and heirloom produce they grow at three local farmers’ markets. Located just outside the busy city of New Haven, Northfordy provides the peaceful sanctuary you’d expect to find in the quiet foothills of Vermont.

The Rothenberg’s see their farm as an important opportunity to educate themselves and the community about sustainability. “We strive to create a sustainable eco-system in which the plants feed the animals, the animals feed the plants and there are minimal inputs," says Peter. Many people visit Northfordy to see the innovative way the farm operates, and the Rothenberg’s enjoy when visitors can interact with the food they grow and the animals they raise – “watching a child unearth a potato or a carrot from the ground for the first time is such a special thing.” If you would like to visit the farm, please be sure to call ahead to make an appointment.

To get a taste of Northfordy’s harvest, head to the farmers’ market—one of Peter's favorite places to talk food and farming with all of his customers. Ask about this year’s batch of maple syrup, 88 gallons all-in-all, from one of Northfordy’s best sugaring seasons yet. You can also order various cuts of lamb including shanks, legs and chops. In the fall, natural wool fiber and yarn from Peter’s own sheep will be available, too!
