In college and university culinary arts, the ultimate professional tribute is the National Association of College and University Foodservice (NACUFS) Loyal E. Horton Dining Award. Named for a NACUFS founder, past president, and highly regarded innovator, the Loyal E. Horton Award salutes the most successful ideas in menus, presentations, special event planning, and new dining concepts. The University of Connecticut’s Department of Dining Services won the coveted Gold Medal in the category of Residence Hall Dining – Single Stand-Alone Concept/Outlet. Their entry was the Whitney/Local Routes Dining facility, the first and only sustainable and locally sourced foods dining facility on the UConn campus.
